Meta One, in plain words: what the paid tiers give a small business

Since mid-September 2026 Meta has sold monthly subscriptions for Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook, including a business bundle with a verified tick. Most local businesses can skip it. A few have a good reason to pay.

The short version

Meta One is a monthly subscription for Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook, sold globally since mid-September. The business bundle starts at $14.99 a month and its main feature is a verified tick with impersonation protection; the Advanced plan, from $49.99, adds scheduling, links in posts and staff access without password sharing (Meta Newsroom, Sept 2026). Pay for the tick if a fake account using your name could cost a customer money. A café does not need it. Meta's new AI helper, Muse, is US and Canada only.

Meta has started selling subscriptions for Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook. In mid-September 2026 it introduced Meta One and said the plans “are now available globally and start at just $2.99 a month for single products, $7.99 a month for individual bundles, and $14.99 a month for creator and business bundles”.

The free apps are still there. What the subscription adds is a verified tick, protection against people impersonating you, and, on the dearer business plan, tools for scheduling posts, putting links in them, and letting staff into the account without your password.

This article sets out what each plan includes, which kind of local business has a reason to pay, and what to finish first if the free profiles are not yet in order. Prices are Meta's US-dollar starting prices, and Meta says pricing varies by region, so the figure in your own app may differ.

What Meta One is, and what each plan costs.

Meta One is a set of paid monthly plans for Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook, introduced by Meta in mid-September 2026 (Meta Newsroom, Sept 2026). You can pay for one app on its own, for a bundle of them, or for a creator or business bundle that adds features the ordinary plans do not have.

Meta's starting prices in US dollars; Meta says pricing varies by region. Two higher business tiers, Expert and Max, also exist. Their prices are not covered here.

The single-app plans and the individual bundles are aimed at people, not businesses. For a shop, a clinic or a trade, the two plans worth reading about are Business Essential and Business Advanced, and the rest of this article is about those two.

Pay for the tick if a fake account using your name could cost a customer money.

The main thing in the Essential plan is verification. Meta says the plan, starting at $14.99 a month, includes a verified badge, “a verified business channel on WhatsApp Business app, and impersonation protection so people know you're who you say you are (pending successful verification)” (Meta Newsroom, Sept 2026).

That bracket at the end matters. Paying does not hand you the tick on its own. Meta checks the business first, and the badge follows only if that check succeeds. Budget for the wait as well as the fee.

Whether it is worth paying for comes down to one question: what happens if somebody sets up an account with your name and your photos? For an estate agent, a dentist, a guesthouse, or anyone who takes deposits by message, the answer is that a customer could pay a stranger and blame you. A verified tick on the real account, and a verified channel on WhatsApp, give customers a way to tell the two apart. For that kind of business the fee is small next to one lost deposit.

Probably worth the Essential plan
Probably fine on the free apps

An estate agent taking holding deposits by WhatsApp

A café whose customers walk in and pay at the counter

A dentist or clinic that books and confirms by message

A gardener who is booked by phone and paid on the day

A guesthouse taking bookings and payments in chat

A shop whose Instagram is a window, not a till

Anyone who has already had a fake account copy them

A salon whose customers know the real account

A café, a barber or a corner shop is less likely to be impersonated for money, because there is no money to send in advance. For them the tick is decoration. Spend the same effort on a complete free profile instead, which is what the Instagram profile guide is about.

The Advanced plan is for staff access, scheduling and links.

Business Advanced starts at $49.99 a month and is mostly about running the accounts with help. Meta lists “Advanced publishing features like scheduling stories up to 30 days in advance, links in organic posts and reels, exportable analytics, and deeper audience insights. Give team members access to your account without sharing your password and get more linked devices and business broadcast credits on WhatsApp” (Meta Newsroom, Sept 2026). In plain words, that list is:

  • Team access without the password. The one feature here most small businesses would actually use. If a helper posts or replies for you, they get their own way in, and you can take it away when they leave without changing the password on your own phone.
  • Scheduling stories. Useful if you prepare a month of posts in one sitting and want them to go out on their own.
  • Links in posts and reels. A tappable link inside the post itself, so a menu, a booking page or a price list is one tap away.
  • Exportable analytics. Numbers you can download and keep, rather than only read on the screen.
  • More linked devices and broadcast credits on WhatsApp. Matters if more than one person answers the business WhatsApp, or if you send announcements to a list.

Threads has had a related change. On 22 Sept it was reported that Meta added Threads-specific permissions for businesses, so a business portfolio can give a member of staff access to Threads without handing over the Instagram login, and advertisers no longer need a matching Instagram account (Social Media Today, 22 Sept 2026). If Threads is part of your posting, the same rule applies: give the helper their own access, not your password.

If you run the accounts alone, the Advanced plan is a lot to pay for scheduling. A shop where two or three people post, or a clinic where a receptionist answers the WhatsApp, is the size at which staff access starts to be worth the fee.

Muse, Meta's AI helper for small businesses, is US and Canada only so far.

On 29 Sept 2026 Meta introduced a small-business version of Muse, its AI agent, and said it is “available in the US and Canada” (Meta Newsroom, 29 Sept 2026). If you are in India, Ireland or the euro area, it is not available to you yet.

Muse connects to tools a business may already use. Meta's list is “Asana, Box, Canva, Dropbox, Figma, Granola, HighLevel, Intuit QuickBooks, Klaviyo, Lovable, Notion, Shopify, Slack, Stripe, Zoom as well as your Facebook and Instagram business accounts”. For a local business the ones likely to matter are QuickBooks, Shopify, Stripe and Canva, plus the Facebook and Instagram accounts themselves.

The line to hold Meta to is this one: “nothing publishes, sends, or spends without your approval”. An assistant that drafts a post, a reply or an invoice and waits for a tap is useful. One that spends ad money on its own would not be, and Meta says this one does not.

If you are in the US or Canada, the sensible first use is the dull one: let it draft replies and posts from your own accounts, and approve each one yourself until you trust it. Whether an assistant of this kind ends up answering customers for you is a bigger question, and the article on AI answers is about what those assistants read before they reply.

No subscription replaces a complete free profile.

Nothing in Meta One does the basic work for you. A verified tick on an Instagram account with no address, no hours and a handful of old photos still sends customers away. Before paying Meta anything, the free profile should be finished.

Try this now

Open your Instagram profile the way a customer would, logged out or from a friend's phone. Can you find the address, the opening hours, a phone number and a way to book without hunting? If not, fix that this week. The Instagram profile guide walks through each field, and the WhatsApp Business article covers the greeting, away message and catalogue on the free app.

  • Instagram and Facebook profiles show the address, hours, phone number and a booking or website link.
  • The WhatsApp Business greeting and away message are set on the free app.
  • Your Google Business Profile shows the same name, hours and phone number as Instagram and WhatsApp.
  • You have decided, honestly, whether a fake account using your name could cost a customer money.
  • If the answer is yes, Business Essential is on the list, with the wait for verification budgeted in.
  • If a helper posts or replies for you, they use their own access, not your password.
  • Any offer of a verified tick that arrives by message from a stranger is treated as a scam.

The order matters. Finish the free profile, decide whether impersonation is a real risk, and only then read the plan page. For most local businesses the answer is the free apps and a good listing. For a few, the tick is worth its fee, and the sooner it is on the real account the better.

A few common questions.

Do I have to pay for Meta One to keep using Instagram or WhatsApp for my business?

No. The free apps continue. Meta One is an optional monthly subscription that adds a verified tick and impersonation protection, and on the dearer business plan, scheduling, links in posts, downloadable analytics and staff access without sharing your password.

How much does the business plan cost?

Meta's starting prices, in US dollars, are $14.99 a month for Business Essential and $49.99 a month for Business Advanced, according to Meta’s September 2026 announcement. Meta says pricing varies by region, so the figure in your own app may differ. Two higher tiers, Expert and Max, also exist.

Does paying guarantee the verified tick?

No. Meta's own wording is that the badge and impersonation protection are pending successful verification. You pay, Meta checks the business, and the badge appears only if the check passes.

Is the verified tick worth it for a café or a small shop?

Usually not. Impersonation costs money when customers pay in advance by message, which is rare for a café or a counter shop. Spend the time on a complete free profile with hours, address, menu and a way to get in touch instead.

Can I use Muse in India, Ireland or the euro area?

Not at launch. When Meta introduced the small-business version of Muse on 29 September 2026 it said the tool is available in the US and Canada. It is not available in India, Ireland or the euro area.

Which Advanced feature would a small shop actually use?

Team access without sharing your password. A helper gets their own way into the account to post or reply, and you can remove it when they leave. Scheduling stories and links in posts are useful too, but a one-person business rarely needs them enough to pay for the plan.
